On Tuesday 12 November 2013, Lieke Stelling defended her PhD on ‘Religious Conversion in Early Modern English Drama’ in the Akademie-building of Leiden University. I read the PhD as a member of the reading committee and was impressed by it. As a Foucault-enthusiast, I was specifically interested in finding out about a play called The Sophister (1614, written by the lawyer Richard Zouche) which is set in a place called ‘Parrhesia’. According to the author of the PhD, the play itself was one of the least interesting of her corpus. Still, congratulations to Lieke!
