Kevin Dekoster is a PhD candidate at the Department of History of Ghent University. His current research project is entitled From Dissecting Table to Courtroom. The Professionalization of Medico-Legal Expert Witness in the Early Modern County of Flanders (16th-18th Centuries). Through a comparative study of early modern medico-legal reports produced on behalf of Flemish law courts on different institutional levels (local versus provincial, urban versus rural), he aims to analyse and explain evolutions in the importance of medico-legal expertise to the functioning of the early modern system of criminal justice. He has also published on the diplomatic relations between France, the archducal regime in Brussels and the Dutch Republic during the final years of the Twelve Years’ Truce.
