Maarten Delbeke

Maarten Delbeke is associate professor at the department of Architecture and Urban Planning of Ghent University, where he teaches courses in the theory and history of architecture. Currently he leads the project The Quest for the Legitimacy of Architecture in Europe 1750-1850 at Leiden University, funded by a Vidi-grant from NWO. His PhD and publications examine how the theory of art and architecture of the early modern and modern period were shaped in a continuous dialogue with other discourses and practices, most notably religion and historiography. He is also the editor-in-chief of Architectural Histories, the online open access journal of the European Architectural History Network (EAHN).
