Youri Desplenter

Youri Desplenter is professor in historical Dutch literature (Middle Ages) at the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy of Ghent University. He studied Germanic Philology (Dutch-German) at Ghent University, where he finished his dissertation on the Middle Dutch translations of Latin hymns and sequences in 2004 (published in 2008). As a postdoctoral researcher (2004-2010), he did research on the Middle Dutch translations of the Psalms, and on the Middle Dutch writings of Jan van Leeuwen († 1378), the cook-mystic of Groenendaal. His current research focuses on Middle Dutch religious and moral-didactic literature, and the relation between vernacular and Latin literature in the Middle Ages.
