Renée Vulto

Renée Vulto is a doctoral researcher at the Ghent University Department of Literary Studies. Previously, she obtained a BA and MA degree in Musicology from the University of Amsterdam and Utrecht University. Her PhD research is the interdisciplinary project ‘Singing Communities: Dutch Political Songs and the Performance of National Identity (1775-1825).’ In this research, Vulto studies a repertoire of political songs at two different levels of identity formation. ‘Singing Communities’ not only looks at how text and music interacted in creating an imagined national community, it also investigates how such imagined communities became embodied communities through the performance of these songs.
